Natural AntiViral Protection
Natural Immune support against viral infections in response to COVID-19 situation
For most of us, it is far from life threatening. It is the immune compromised or elderly individual who is at high risk for severe or lethal outcome. I have written this article in the hopes of providing some suggestions to optimize your own immune system as well as remedies you may want to have on hand. Some of these you will find at your local grocery or Amazon. I will leave a link below, where you can find most of these, and if you have trouble, I may be able to get them dropped shipped to you directly from the warehouse. (For that, you can email me).
As a healthcare provider and naturopath, I have some experience (20+ years) with supporting the immune system and coping with viral illness. I know we are currently being told there are no vaccines or cures but what we are NOT being told, as it is not FDA approved, is that there are many foods and supplements that have antiviral properties. But even before that, you should be making sure you are doing all you can to optimize your own immune system.
OPTIMIZE YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM
MY FIRST QUESTION IS, "HOW MUCH VITAMIN D3 ARE YOU TAKING?". If you have let this most important supplement slip from your daily routine, not only are you an open door to colds and flu, but auto-immune disease, cancer, and Seasonal Affective Disorder---just to name a few. For most of us, 4000-6000iu daily (2-3 drops), is a great dose that should help to keep our levels between 65-100. You do not want you levels below 50--ever. Liqui-D3 gets levels up far faster than any other type out there
Vitamin C- A good quality vitamin C (not just ascorbic acid) is not only anti-aging, but protective against illness. Taking a quality Vitamin C can help shorten illness duration as well. Maintenance is 1000-2000mg daily. If you are sick, try 3000mg 2x daily.
ZINC- has become a popular treatment for the common cold and other viral ailments. Some studies have found that zinc lozenges may reduce the duration of cold or other virus, perhaps by as much as 50%, and may reduce the number of upper respiratory infections in children. Zinc helps fight infection and heal wounds. Zinc may cause nausea in some individuals. Take with meals to avoid this. 25-30mg per day would be beneficial and protective.
Supplements With ANTIVIRAL PROPERTIES
COLLOIDAL SILVER -- excellent flu prevention. Colloidal Silver has anti-viral, antibacterial and antifungal properties. I take 5 sprays (ACS Spray) 1x per day to prevent illness during the flu season. I also take this prior to fights. This product is excellent for those who just can't shake that upper respiratory infection as well. Colloidal silver comes in liquid, sprays, gels and lozenges.
I frequently use CATS CLAW, ARTEMESIA and LICORICE tincture for my clients struggling with viral illness. We have had great success. Oregano, Basil, Sage, Fennel, Ginger, Rosemary, Dandelion and peppermint have antiviral properties as well.
One of my favorite go-to remedies to shorten the duration of many winter bugs is DEFENSE by Optimal Health System. This is an Arizona based company and you would need to order directly from them (they have my favorite digestive enzymes as well). Tell them Cathi Stack sent you.

Oscillococcinum- One of the most popular homeopathic flu remedies. Take 2-3 vials per day for 2-3 days
DIET
A diet high in sugar and refined carbohydrates (muffins, bagels, breads, pasta...) is asking for trouble. (I’m worried as the pasta shelves are empty and the produce is full)
- Citrus fruit is in season for a reason--eat it! Berries as well. Packed with potent antioxidants, daily fruit has protective qualities.
- Garlic, ginger, horseradish have amazing antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties. Please don’t forget about fresh garlic. Garlic has shown promise as a treatment for preventing colds and the flu. Studies have shown that garlic reduces the risk of becoming sick in the first place, as well as how long you stay sick. ... If you often get sick with a cold or flu, eating garlic can help reduce your symptoms or prevent your illness entirely.
- Eat Lots of vegetables. Even though we are out of season, vegetables provide many health benefits.
- Eating only prepared and processed foods will get you nowhere--- BUT Fat!
- Nuts, seeds, olive oil, coconut oil and avocado are excellent healthy fats
- Herbal teas count as water and many contain antiviral properties (ginger, dandelion, lemon balm, peppermint, etc). Drink 3-4 times daily
- CHICKEN SOUP- is a very excellent remedy! Make and freeze some to have on hand for when illness makes an unexpected visit. For the best results, make your own stock from the whole chicken and don’t forget the onions and garlic.
SLEEP
Sleep is essential for every aspect of health. If you do not sleep well, not only do you leave yourself open to a host of chronic illnesses but an accelerated aging process that is hard to fight no matter how much botox you get ;)
SLEEP FACTORS is a broad spectrum multi-tasker when it comes to a better quality sleep. There are a variety of reasons that we don't sleep and this supplement addresses most of them. It is non-habit forming but best taken when you really need a good night's sleep. It is safe.

DON’T PANIC
Anxiety at its worst= panic. The definition of panic; sudden uncontrollable fear or anxiety, often causing wildly unthinking behavior. Panic can cause death as a result of irrational actions or thinking. Most adult drownings are a result of panic, not the inability to swim. I say this so you can keep your head-- please don’t panic. Fear and panic can easily be more destructive than what you are actually afraid of and are devastating to your immune system.
Take time to separate from the news. The sun still shines, your family and friends will still make you laugh, and there is an abundance of “feel good” movies and books to dive into. Many individuals will have much more time on their hands. If you love scrolling through social media, “like” uplifting people and pages. Find your creative side. Paint, write or even learn something new. Make the most of this time and make it a goal for something good to come out of it. Surround yourself with things and thoughts that make you feel good. This will be very protective armour during this time of uncertainty.
